Steven R. Boyett's Ariel is back in print, at last. Elegy Beach, the long-awaited sequel, is to be released in November 2009.

"Part post-apocalypse, part road-trip, part sword-and-sorcery: ARIEL is one of my favorite adventure novels of all time." —Cory Doctorow, author of LITTLE BROTHER, co-editor of BoingBoing

Calon/Grimfells humour [Sep. 25th, 2006|07:35 pm]

Those folks who are Calontir-sympathizers but aren't currently subscribed to the list, may have missed some fairly extensive work by the evil genius that is (their) Malik.

He has created a couple of cafepress (and cafepress-like sites) to express the singular sense of humour and SCA experience that is Calontir and Grimfells. I got a Fera shirt from one.

Here are a couple of samples:

Surf around, there's some good stuff there.

HBO seem to be testing the marketing waters for support for a 4th season of Deadwood, which they previously cancelled due to production costs, then agreed to do two made for tv movies to wrap up, then ... didn't quite know what they were doing.

Here's the survey link (Deadwood Season 3 knowledge an asset):

My physiotherapist and his gf went to Serenity last night on my suggestion and he really enjoyed it. It isn't the sort of movie he normally would have seen, and the advertising didn't do anything for him at all. He and I talked it up to some other patients of his this afternoon. Word of mouth needs to get around faster on this movie.

I'll be in Ottawa this weekend, so I won't be at any of the Toronto Browncoats functions. I will drag some people to the BDM when I'm down there, I hope. This is a big weekend for the movie. Second weekend of the release and it needs good numbers. This is desirable because the option for the sequel hinges on how well the movie does, and second weekend take goes a long way to determining whether the film will have legs (continue to sell tickets). If you have the time and the inclination to see the movie at all this weekend, please do so!

More Serenity stuff [Oct. 1st, 2005|02:16 am]

From the San Francisco Chronicle's review of Serenity (they gave it their highest rating):

Advisory: This film contains violence, gore and profanity. By watching high-quality geek filmmaking, you run the risk of turning into a geek, which can be very expensive.

Simon: I'm trying to put this as delicately as I can. How do I know you won't kill me in my sleep?

Mal: You don't know know me, son, so let me explain this to you once. If I ever kill you, you'll be awake, you'll be facing me, and you'll be armed.
